Parrish Explores Abstract Expressionism Through the Years

Dan's Papers

“The exhibition really wanted to focus on the artists who had been prevalent on the East End during a very specific time within art history — the mid-century movement, kind of coming out from New York to the East End,” Parrish Associate Curator and Publications Manager Kaitlin Halloran said. To that end, the multiple rooms of work on display offer examples by all the household names of the movement, including Pollock, de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Robert Motherwell, and Helen Frankenthaler, among many others, as well as some brilliant but lesser known artists, such as late Sag Harbor painter Frank Wimberley, Joop Sanders, Alice Baber and Ibram Lassaw, to name a few. Hans Namuth’s famous photographs of Pollock, James Brooks, de Kooning, Krasner and more Abstract Expressionist icons are also on view, along with a number of other photographers’ portraits of artists.
