The Artsy Edit | Rising stars, overlooked greats, and Foundations 2025
Artsy
Hi and welcome back to The Artsy Edit, a quick guide to what’s happening in the art world this week. I’m Maxwell Rabb—or just Max—staff writer here at Artsy, stepping in for Casey until she’s back from vacation.
We’re well into the dog days of summer, which means group shows are everywhere. But don’t let the heat fool you—some killer solo exhibitions have cut through the seasonal haze in New York. Just last week, I was taken by “Spolia,” a striking display of new ceramics and paintings by Olive Diamond, all of which illustrate color-soaked mythological scenes. It is tucked away in the back of Anat Ebgi, and it marks the artist’s solo debut in the city.
Another solo show I can’t stop thinking about is Berry Campbell Gallery’s presentation of Lebanese American artist Lucia Wilcox’s colorful, Surrealist paintings, which closed in late June and brought long-overdue attention to her work 50 years after her death. These paintings open onto a bright, fantastical world, refreshingly unburdened by doom and gloom.
