Eric Dever returns with a new botanical series on view in New York

The Floral Journal
Berry Campbell Gallery, located in Chelsea, New York, USA, presents Eric Dever: Points of Interest, an inspiring new exhibition that celebrates the artist’s long-standing dialogue with nature, opening July 3 and running through August 15, 2025. Dever’s solo show at Berry Campbell, Points of Interest, delves deeply into the temporal qualities of plant life and the urgent ecological realities of climate change. The artist, who lives and works in Water Mill, New York, draws rich inspiration from his own studio garden, as well as from surrounding watersheds, nature reserves, and historic vistas. These varied landscapes feed into Dever’s sensitive visual language, offering visitors a powerful and timely reflection on our relationship with the natural world.

Dever’s paintings gracefully balance between representation and abstraction. At times, botanical forms emerge in striking clarity, revealing their delicate structures and natural rhythms. These forms seem to dissolve and spill beyond the boundaries of the canvas, transforming into atmospheric abstractions that invite viewers into a more meditative, emotional realm. The nineteen works on view include some of Dever’s largest and most ambitious paintings to date, each one layered with time and gesture in ways that echo the organic growth cycles of the plants he studies.
